When life hands you China, go play in a rice box.

Armed with only a handful of toys, the question of "what shall we do this morning?" was causing my heart to palpatate and my palms to sweat. And then I recalled one simple fact that turned our morning into one of glee.

We are in the land of rice.

So, Marcus and I hit the nearest supermarket, loaded up on the biggest bag of rice we could tote home, dumped it into a drawer from the closet and... batta boom, batta-bing!... instant joy for a little boy!

Admittedly, the idea lost a teensy bit of it's novelty for me once it came time for cleanup. I think grains of rice will be lurking in the nooks and crannies of the living room for days/weeks/months/years to come.

Come to think of it, maybe next time we decide to play with our food we'll set up shop on the balcony instead.

WHAT A TERRIFFIC IDEA! Good thinking, Ann-marie. The good news is that weeks/months/years to come others may find rice...but it probably won't be you! Wouldn't it be hilarious if you all returned to China for another few weeks stint in the future...stayed in the same apartment...and found grains of rice. ha! I know Marcus had a great time. We used to do that same thing with a bucket of beans and lentils when Rob was that age.
